Here at Gleesons we have a soft spot for all things Christmassy. Our historic old building lends itself really well to festive decorations and we love the whole ceremony of putting up the wreaths, ornaments and garlands.
Christmas at Gleesons is charming and olde worlde, like stepping into a Christmas card from times past. The time-honoured townhouse lends itself perfectly to yuletide decoration and it’s easy to believe that the open fireplace welcomes Santa himself every year. A lunch/dinner Christmas menu is now available for pre-booked groups – a perfect traditional pre-Christmas meal out.
Want some ideas for walks this season? Roscommon has an incredible variety of autumn walks you can enjoy. From the brilliant vistas along the banks of The River Suck, to tranquil walks through Irelands famous Peatlands. Roscommon has it all and we cannot wait to share them with you.
We get all sorts of visitors staying with us here at Gleesons Roscommon. Earlier this month we were privileged to host some guests from Nebraska who were definitely not run-of-the-mill tourists. Led by Fr Steven E Boes they were here for the opening of the new visitor centre in Ballymoe honouring the Roscommon priest Fr Edward Flanagan.
Roscommon is full of unexpected treasures and Roscommon Castle is definitely one of those. Unlike many Irish castles which are really tower houses, this is the real thing complete with towers, slits for archers and a murder hole.
Roscommon has an incredible variety of events over the next few months, and we can’t wait to share them with you. We have all the dates and information you need to start planning your trip to Roscommon, whether you're looking for music, cultural or heritage events, Roscommon has it all.
We are thrilled to have been listed by Jillian Bolger in the Irish Independent last week as one of ten restaurants and pubs where you can stay overnight in Ireland. The list appeared in the popular Saturday Weekend Magazine and included luminaries such as Lagom in Kenmare and the well-known seafood restaurant The King Sitric in Howth.
It’s true. We really do love dogs and are happy to welcome them to stay; we often have a well behaved dog or two in residence. A weekend in early April took us by surprise though when no less than five handsome and well behaved dogs checked in with their owners. That was totally unprecedented and then we discovered why - they were taking part in the dog show at Roscommon Racecourse.
We hope everyone had a great weekend at Roscommon Easter Festival 2022. Well done to the organisers for a fantastic weekend of music, entertainment and the parade. It was a great celebration of the 50th year of Roscommon’s Easter Parade and also 100 years since the establishment of An Garda Síochána.
