NEW at Gleesons, our Hidden History short breaks are an absorbing introduction to our town, our county and your own family history. This lovely package includes two nights in our historic townhouse and one evening meal, with a fascinating guided walk of our traditional market town. Roscommon town has a direct rail connection with Dublin so it’s really handy to get to.

The 90 minute walking tour begins at Gleesons Townhouse itself which is a classic ashlar stone fronted building, originally built as a Presbyterian manse. Tour guide Marie Gillooly lifts the lid on the intriguing history and heritage of this traditional market town in a lively, engaging fashion. History enthusiasts can take advantage of a 10% discount on a visit to Rathcroghan Visitor Centre in nearby Tulsk, a journey back to a time before the pyramids, to the world of Queen Medb and the epic tale of the Táin Bó Cuailnge. Another extra is an optional 30 minutes of free family history research by certified genealogist Eilish Feeley.

Guests will experience the real Gleesons welcome including tea/coffee and homemade scones on arrival as well as a loaf of Mary’s famous homemade brown bread as a little memento of their visit. You’ll meet like-minded people and enjoy our legendary hospitality in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
